As per the observation, six new rare species of birds have been identified. These species are pink-browed rosefinch, common rosefinch, variegated laughing thrust, red fronted bullfinch, common kestrel, large build crow. A study was also done last year on birds in the valley. At that time only three rare species were found, and those were related with grey wagtail bird species. These new species are showing the indications of increase in the bird species, which is a good sign for biodiversity. Though there are some 30 more bird species, these are common birds found in other areas also.</span></span></div>

is one of the youngest chains of mountains in the world. There are varieties of
wild life present in the whole region of Himalayan mountains. The plants

vegetation vanishes due to heavy snowfall causing the damage to all types of

<span data-mce-style="color: #800000;"><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Sir George Everest was British Surveyor General of India from 1830 – 43 who spent much of his time in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand in India. This beautiful building was later changed to a cowshed. The Survey office of Sir George was located near Castle Hill Estate in Londour, which was acquired by the government few decades ago. The office remains neglected and needs renovation to get back to its past glory. <strong><span data-mce-style="color: #800000;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Interestingly, the Mount Everest name has very little to do with Sir George. After Everest’s retirement in 1843, the work of Survey of India was continued under Andrew Scott Waugh. Till 1852, the Mount Everest was not considered the highest peak in the world but was considered much lower than Kanchenjunga (8,586 mtr.). The altitude of Kanchenjunga was declared in 1840 and it was only in 1852, the survey measured Everest’s elevation as 8,839.81 mtr. The peak XV (Mt. Everest) got the pride of being highest peak in the world in 1852.</span></span></strong></div>

<strong><span data-mce-style="color: #800000;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Andrew Scott Waugh wanted the peak to be named for after the name of his predecessor – Sir George Everest. Some geographers argued and expressed reservations, that the local name of the peak should be retained – Chomolungma in Tibetan. But after considerable time and debate, 1865 the mountain was given the official name as Everest and Sir George got immortalized.</span></span></strong></div>

traditions and myths surrounding Dronagiri village do not end there. We had the
opportunity to meet one of the inhabitants of Dronagiri village and he was able
to enlighten us about the myths and traditions of his village. Here we recount
what he told us for the benefit of our readers.<o:p></o:p></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>It seems that when Hanuman reached Dronagiri, he sought
directions from the local people about the hill-top where the SanjiviniButi
could be found, but none of the men-folk were ready to disclose this secret.
Hanuman then approached an old woman and recounted the plight of Laxman and Ram
to her, again requesting that the hill-top be pointed out to him. The old woman
was a kind soul and without saying anything she pointed a finger in the
direction of the hill. We all know that thereafter Hanuman lifted the whole
hilltop to Lanka when he couldn’t identify the particular herb himself.<o:p></o:p></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Local tradition takes an interesting turn at this point.
Since the concerned hilltop happened to be the right shoulder of Dronagiri
ParvatDev, the local deity, the residents of Dronagiri no longer worship Lord
Hanuman. Also, because ParvatDev was betrayed by a woman, till this day no
woman may enter the temple of ParvatDev as per local tradition and they have to
perform puja from a distance. The <i>prasad</i>
of ParvatDev is also not distributed among the womenfolk of the village.<o:p></o:p></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>It is a fact that without exception, all villages in
Uttarakhand have their own local deities. Thus it is not without reason that
Uttarakhand is also known as Devbhoomi, the Land of Gods. For the most part
these local deities are considered to be manifestations or avatars of Goddess
Durga, Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu. But in many places the local deity’s identity
is linked to some prominent local natural spectacle or formation. Dronagiri
ParvatDev is a great example of one of these.<o:p></o:p></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>There are two categories of local deities, there are those
who are aloof and can only be worshipped. And then there are the more social
ones who actually interact with their devotees through a human intermediary
called a <i>paswa</i>. Dronagiri ParvatDev
is in the latter category and during certain festivals and times he interacts
with his devotee through the <i>paswa</i>. What
is most interesting is that the <i>paswa</i>,
who otherwise is a healthy able-bodied person, loses the use of his right arm
as long as the spirit of ParvatDev is in him. The right arm just goes limp from
shoulder downwards and he carries out all his activities such as distribution
of Prasad etc with his left arm exclusively. It may be recalled that Lord
Hanuman had ripped off a mountaintop from Dronagiri which happened to be the
right shoulder of ParvatDev.<o:p></o:p></b></span></span></div>

exercised the only logical option of carrying away the whole hilltop so that
Susena could himself identify the required herbs. Laxman was saved but this
story of the life-restoring SanjiviniButi continues to exercise our interest
and imagination to this day.</b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b> But coming back to our

PatanjaliYogpeeth, <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/haridwar/"><span style="color: red;"><i>Haridwar</i></span></a> has already made the claim that SanjiviniButi has
been discovered and identified by a Patanjali team which visited Dronagiri
village in the Himalayas for that purpose in end 2008. However, the Patanjali team
was careful to couch its claims in ambigious language to convey that what the
team claims to be the Sanjivinibuti is the nearest that may be interpreted to
be the mythological miracle herb. The Uttarakhand government had also sent a
team to Dronagiri to search for the elusive miracle and it too came back with
ambigious reports.</b></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>The
lawmakers and the wildlife experts fear that the forests of Uttarakhand and Nepal –
China border have become hunting ground for musk – bearing stag . Musk is a
strong scented secretion glands of male musk deer, normally used for perfume
and medicinal use in China and its neighbours. This very thing makes the deer
vulnerable to hunters and poachers due to its demand in the international market.
The population of the musk deer in Uttarakhand was 274 in 2003 and 279 in 2005.
The last census was taken in the year 2008, when the count was 284 as per the
official record. There are two musk deer sanctuaries in Uttarakhand – Askot (<a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/pithoragarh/"><span style="color: red;"><i>Pithoragarh</i></span></a>
district) and <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/kedarnath/"><span style="color: red;"><i>Kedarnath</i></span></a> (in <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/chamoli/"><span style="color: red;"><i>Chamoli</i></span></a> and <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/rudrapyayag/"><i><span style="color: red;">Rudraprayag</span></i></a> district). There are no statistics
on the population of the musk deer in these two sanctuaries.<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>The
hunters and poachers of India and Nepal hunt the deer and coordinate closely to
make trade on the musk pod. The animal parts are smuggled from this area to
other places of commercial interests. Due to lack of forest staff, the poachers have
easily been carrying out this activity. The poachers set forests on fire to
disturb the habitats of the deer, and snare those that come out in order to
escape the fire. There have been the cases of seizing the musk pods from the
poachers. The last musk pod was seized in 2014. Prior to that, in 2012, two
musk pods were seized. The districts –
Chamoli, Uttarakashi, Pithoragarh and <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/bageshwar/"><span style="color: red;"><i>Bageshwar</i></span></a> are vulnerable to this poaching. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>

</b><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>The
weight of the musk pod is around 100-250 grams making it is to carry. So, it’s
not very difficult to smuggle this item on the borders. The solution to resolve
this problem lies by strengthening the information between forest, police,
informers etc. As per the official
record, against sanctioned positions of forest guard of 3650, only 2700 have
been filled. So, by improving the networking and strengthening the areas where
there are vacuums, this menace can be prevented. </b></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>The Uttarakhand forest department found evidence of the presence of snow
leopards in six valleys during the survey conducted to study the population of
the endangered cat in the upper reaches, an official said on Monday (8th
Febraury, 2016). The 15-day survey in June 2015 – the first in the state to map
the population of the endangered high – altitude species – was conducted in the
hill state and the evidences of its presence were found in six, said
Uttarakhand chief wildlife warden. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>The snow leopard, a species found at an altitude of 3,000 m, is a Schedule
I animal under Wildlife Protection Act of India and is listed as <br />
“endangered” by International Union for Conservation of Nature. Uttakhand is
among the five states in the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal
Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh where snow leopards have been sighted.
Presence of snow leopard has been recorded on the camera traps in Gangotri and
Nanda Devi earlier. However, this is the first time that their evidence in 6
valleys out of 16 has been recorded. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>Thirty nine pieces of evidence, including dropping and scats were found.
The dropping will be sent for DNA analysis. DNA analysis will help subtract
duplication and identify the number snow leopards. With all these findings, it
is expected that the state will now be covered under the Global Snow Leopard
and Ecosystem Protection programme that includes 12 range countries, where the
elusive the big cats are found.<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>Through this project, the forest department shall be able to do better
habitat management of the species. In 2013, 12 snow leopard large countries
including India, Russia, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Bhutan,
Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed the ambitious
Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Programme in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><b>Conservationists say the number of snow leopards have decreased due to
the receding snowline and poaching in the hill state. The lack of population
map of snow leopards in Uttarakhand had created a hurdle for the state’s
inclusion in the project Snow Leopard launched by the Union ministry of
environment, forest and climate change in 2009. Under the project, state had to
identify the snow leopard habitats and draft management plans. The Centre,
under the project, provides funds for the research, including the use of camera
traps and satellite collaring to collect more data on the elusive big cat. Snow
leopard prefer steep rugged habitat with broken terrains, rocky outcrops. These
landscape give the elusive cats a clear view and good cover to hunt the prey. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>It is believed that Adiguru Sankaracharya
came to present-day Joshimath all the way from Kerala at the young age of 11
and spent some 5 years meditating in a cave under a mulberry tree. He received <i>jyoti</i> here and went on to establish one
of his four mathas in Joshimath, the <i>Jyotirmath</i>.
Adiguru Sankaracharya is also said to have recovered the idol of Lord Badrinath
from the NaradKund where it had been thrown into, and re-established it in what

estimated to be anywhere between 1500 to 2500 years and its appearance supports
this estimate. The girth of the tree is an astonishing 21 meters and it is
almost as big as a hut. An interesting characteristic of this tree is that
while it flowers regularly, it does not bear any fruits, perhaps because of its
great age. This mulberry tree is popularly known as the <i>Kalpavriksha</i>, the legendary tree of life which in Hindu mythology
emerged during the churning of the ocean of milk(<i>samudramanthan</i>) by the devas and asuras. A small Mahadev temple and
its porch under the Kalpavriksha provide a tranquil place for visitors to rest

directed all the local bodies to enforce
it effectively, urban development secretary said on Monday. Penalty of Rs.
5000/- will be slapped on violator. However, the government would make a fresh
appeal to the NGT for a relaxation in view of the ongoing Ardh Kumbh fair in

fair and shortage of staff elsewhere. Echoing the same concern, Haridwar
municipal commissioner said, “The average floating population (visitors such as
tourists and pilgrims) of the city is even higher than that of the city’s

it needs lot of effort to complete as one has to trek to Kedarnath first. The
lake is also famous as Gandhi Sarovar, because the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were
submerged in this lake. The beauty of
this lake is its blue waters and floating icebergs on the surface of the lake which
attracts the tourists here. The starting of this trek is through the moraines at the back of the
temple of Sri Kedarnath. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>

other lake, which is Basukital lake is also one of the sought after lakes in
Kedar valley. The place has a very beautiful and bright surrounding in a panoramic
natural setting. On reaching at this place, the air gets chill and you are more
close to the Himalayas. The water is crystal clear and you can also see ice
blocks floating on the surface of the lake. This trekking route is narrow at
the right bank of Mandakini up 5 km from Kedarnath. The trek can be done only when the Kedarnath
shrine is open. In winters, the lake is totally frozen due to extreme cold
weather.<o:p></o:p></b></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><b>The
other famous lake in Kedar valley is Deoriatal. This lake is quite approachable
as one has to trek only 3 km from the road head. This lake is at the top of the
famous town <a href="http://www.dreammountain.net/ukhimath/" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;"><i>Ukhimath</i></span></a>. The main drinking water source of the Ukimath town is
Deoriatal. This lake is accessible all-round the year. On reaching the lake,
one can view the magnificent Himalayan peaks. The most important one is
Chaukhamba peak, and the reflection of this peak can also be viewed on the
lake’s surface. Kedar valley is truly a wonderful place to visit, where you can
find numerous interesting and breathtaking places.</b></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The river Mandakini origins from Kedarnath valley.
Mandakini river is the result of three streams coming down from a large glacier
behind Kedarnath temple and fourth stream coming down from the mountain just on
the opposite side. These four streams merge to become the Mandakini river. The
Mandakini river ends at Rudraprayag where it merges with Alaknanda.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

existence of Bhaironathji. The temple of Bhaironathji is about half kilometer
from the main temple of Kedarnath. The temple of Bhaironathji is worshipped on
the opening and the closing days of Kedarnath temple. According to the
religious belief, Bhaironathji protects Kedarnath temple during winter season

mortal body at Kedarnath. The Samadhi of Adiguru is located at the back of the
main temple. Adiguru is a well known figure in the Indian history. He is known
for his efforts to revive Hiduism. The Indian subcontinent in the medieval
period had been influenced by Buddism. The effort to spread Buddhism had
started by King Ashoka and was continued by many other Kings. By 8th
century when Adiguru had born, Buhhism had become a prominent religion in India
and many people had started practicing <a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack"></a>the religion. It
was Adiguru Sankracharya, who stated the teachings about the greatness of
Hiduism. Adiguru established four Maths and four Dhams in the four corners of
India. At the age of 32 years, Adiguru passed away at Kedarnath leaving his
immortal teachings and the great pilgrimages of Hindu religion.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
priests of Kedarnath temple are called Pandas. The Pandas had come to Kedarnath
valley with Adiguru Sankracharya in 9th century and they remained
here forever. Presently, the Pandas reside in the villages near Guptakashi and
Ukhimath. The Pandas practice astrology and some are well versed in Sanskrit.
The Pandas had come along with Adiguru Sankracharya from south India as the
part of Hinduism revival. It is believed
that the Brahmins belonged to the saiva sect and accompanied Adiguru till the
end. Adiguru passed away and left his mortal body at Kedarnath and all the
accompanying priests also stayed here and their legacy still can be traced in
this modern age continuing their duty to serve Kedarnath. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
temple opening of Kedarnath has a long tradition of carrying the doli (carrier)
on Akshaya Tritiya from its winter seat at Ukhimath to Kedarnath. The doli
reaches on the third afternoon to Kedarnath Dham. The next day, the temple is
opened for the pilgrims and the local residents with all the required rituals. The
Kedarnath Dham opens normally 2 – 3 days before Badrinath Dham. All the details
related to the opening of the temple is decided by the priests at Ukhimath on
Mahashivratri. The opening date normally falls during the last week of April or
first week of May.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
closing date of the Kedarnath is always next day of Deewali. The closing
ceremony of the temple is also very important but simple and brief. The
Kedarnath temple is left under the protection of Baironathji during winters.
All the priests, workers and pilgrims leave Kedarnath after closing the temple
and move to Ukhimath. The tradition of closing and opening of Kedarnath Dham
has been existing since ancient times.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
puranas tell us that in the battle of Mahabharat, the Pandavas had won the war
over Kauravas. Aftermath the massacre of Kauravas in the battle of Mahabharat
in Kurukshetra, the Pandavas decided to take the journey to Kashi in order to
take the blessings of Lord Shiva to get absolved from the sin of killing their
own kinsmen – the Kauravas. Lord Shiva was not willing to forgive them for
their wrongdoings and fled to Himalayas from Kashi in order to avoid giving
them his darshan. Initially, the Lord Shiva hid in Guptkashi and the name
implies the same –the Kashi in hiding.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
Lord Shiva was hiding in Guptkashi but was soon identified by Pandavas and He
had to leave Guptakashi for Kedaranth. The Pandavas with stern willpower chased
Him and reached Kedarnath. At Kedarnath, the Lord faked Him in the form of a
bull amongst other cattle. The Pandavas had guessed the Lord Shiva’s ploy and
waited until dusk when all the cattle started going back to home. Bhim planned
to detect the Lord by planning to testify the cattle going underneath him, he
stretched his legs across mountains and let the cattle go underneath him. All
the cattle went under his legs, except Shiva in the form of the bull. At the
end, Shiva dived into the earth in order to escape but His back (hump) portion
came in the hand of Bhim. Finally, Lord Shiva was pleased with the
determination of the Pandavas and exonerated them from their sin. He also
bestowed them the opportunity to worship him in the form of the hump. Since
then, the hump in the form of conical stone in the temple of Kedarnath is
worshipped. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Legend
has also it that after the disappearance of Lord Shiva into the earth, the
front portion appeared at Pashupatinath, Nepal. The other four portions which
appeared at different places are as follows:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Tungnath
– Arms, Rudranath – Face, Madmaheshwar – Navel, Kalpeshwar – Hair coils.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

above four along with Kedarnath are called Panch Kedars.</span><!--EndFragment--><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Thousands of devotees visit Shri Kedarnath ji to
worship the Lord Shiva. The temple faces east and every day the devotees throng
the Sabha Mandap for their desire to take a glimpse of Lord Shiva. There are
two timings for Puja, one in the morning and one in the evening. In the
morning, the Shiva pinda is worshipped without any extra decoration,
ornamentation or floral etc. The main offerings are Ghee and water. This
morning puja (worship) is called Nirwan darshan. In the evening the Shiva pinda
is adorned with flowers and ornaments, which is called Sringar darshan. The
pinda has a golden umbrella on top which is suspended from the above. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-outline-level: 1; text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Some people think that the Sringar darshan is quite
contrary to the image of Lord Shiva, who is believed to be in deerskin and the
body is besmeared with ashes. But, the Lord has no shape, form or colour and
these worships are symbolic and contain the messages to the divine Lord. The
Sringar darshan symbolizes a complete surrender. The Nirwan and the Sringar
darshans are the earthly ways to show your dedication and the devotion to the
Lord Shiva. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
puja in Kedarnath has its origin with the Mahabharata. After the battle, all
five Pandavas came to Kedar valley in the search of Lord Shiva to repent and be
absolved from the sin of killing their own kinsmen – the Kauravas. Shiva
disguised as a cattle was identified by Bhim. Shiva was pleased and exonerated
them from their sin. The hump which came in Bhim’s hand was worshipped by
Pandavas and the same has become the symbol as stone in Garbh griha. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The important pujas which are normally performed
in the morning are as follows : Shubh Prabhat, Mahabhisek, Balbhog, Ashtotar,
Rudrabhisek, Shiv Puja etc.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

important evening pujas are as follows:<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Bookman Old Style', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Kedarnath
temple is located in the district of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand state of India.
Kedarnath temple is the seat of Lord Shiva and known as one of the Char Dhams
of Uttarakhand, others being Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath. The temple is
located at an altitude of 3583 mtr. above sea level, surrounded by tall snow
capped mountains. The devotees come here in a land totally different from
outside world. It is said that after coming here the unholy becomes holy and
the holy becomes holier. </span><span style="font-family: 'Bookman Old Style', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
temple is a magnificent example of architecture and wonder of its time of
construction. It is assumed that the temple was constructed one thousand years
back when the architecture was at its peak. It can only be imagined that how difficult
it must have been to built this temple at that time. There is no proper historical
record of its origin and construction. The temple is built of large grey
stones. There are two sections : Mandapam and Garbh griha.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
Garbh griha is in the centre of the temple consisting of a conical shaped rock,
which is worshipped as Lord Shiva. The Garbh griha is encircled by a narrow
pradakshina path. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Mandapam
is right in front of the Shiva where Nandi, the divine bull, is located. There are many other idols and the subordinate
temples on the outer part of the temple. This temple is considered as one of
the twelve Jyotirlings of Lord Shiva.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Some
of the stones of the temples bear inscriptions in either Pali or Brahmi script.
According to some vague references King bhoj constructed the temple. But a serious
effort has not been put to decipher the script and the real historical data can
only be revealed after proper investigation. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

<span style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
Kedarnath temple is associated with Kedar valley. Kedar valley is famous for
Panch Kedar. The other four kedar temples are Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath
and Kalpeshwar.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Happy
New Year (2016). Uttrakhand state offers you many tourist destinations during
winters. The destinations are Mussoorie,
Nainital, Joshimath, Auli and the list goes on. Dream Mountain offers you
several packages to fulfill your desire to explore the beauty of this hilly
region of Uttarakhand. One of the most sought after destinations during last few
years or say couple of decades, is Auli. Auli is famous for its meadows and
skiing in winters. Recently, Yahoo published an article on Auli considering it
as an alternative to a European destination for skiing. Yahoo certainly is not
wrong and one should visit this place to have the experience of the journey.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Auli
is located at an altitude of 2744 mtr. and 14 km from the town Joshimath. One
can also reach Auli using ropeway having 3.75 km in length. Every year many ski
enthusiasts visit Auli. There are many courses of skiing, starting from minimum
4 days. The packages consist of food,
lodge and skiing activity. Apart from skiing, there are many other sports
activities like trekking, rock climbing, motor biking etc. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
The
other place near Auli is the famous town, Joshimath also known as Jyotirmath. There
are many scenic and historical and religious places in and near Joshimath. The
people who visit Auli, also visit the sacred and religious places in Joshimath.
The Narsing temple, Adi Guru’s seat, Tapovan hotspring etc. are few examples.
No doubt, Auli and Joshimath give you all the necessary elements to fulfill
your desire of enjoying adventure and family holidays.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Auli
can be reached within 10 hours drive from Rishikesh. The distance of Rishikesh
from Delhi is around 225 km which can be covered in 6-7 hours. The distance of
Auli from Joshimath is around 265 km. One does not need to go Auli directly and
can make Joshimath as halting station. From Joshimath, Auli is like a picnic
spot just 14 km away. </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
So,
plan your trip to Auli with your family and friends this year with winter snow
and skiing. </div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;">Increased tourist
footfall at Beatle’s Chaurasi Kutia Ashram in the Rajaji Tiger Reserve in
Uttarakhand may soon become a problem for the reserve animals, Uttarakhand
wildlife experts said on Monday. The famous rock band stars of the 60s had
visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram in 1968 to learn meditation. They stayed
in 84 huts for three months and wrote many songs. The ashram, lying abandoned
after its lease expired in 1980 when Uttarakhand was the part of Uttar Pradesh,
was thrown open for public from 8th December 2015. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Rajaji Tiger Reserve (RTR)
director admitted that there has been rise in the number of visitors after the
reserve has been thrown open to the public, but she denied there was any danger
to the wildlife. What concerns the wildlife experts most is the tourists can
drive their vehicle straight into the reserve to the ashram in their vehicles after
obtaining the permit from the gate. The roads which are used by the tourists
are crossed by the animals like elephant, leopard, tigers etc. to drink Ganga
water. The increased traffic has become a threat to the animals.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">National Tiger Conservation
Authority has given the permission to renovate, maintain and use the Beatles
ashram for touring purpose and a budget has also been allocated for this
purpose. This has been done to promote the tourism and also to keep a focus on
wildlife conservation. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">As per one expert the vehicular
movement should be minimized in the area which would be hurdle to the animal to
access the water. The other thing which has to be kept in mind, that the tigers
can be present near ashram within 500 meters range. The reserve is battling with the human
intervention in the areas meant for the wildlife. The western part of the
reserve along with Gohari range has human settlements. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
The
National Green Tribunal on Thursday (10th December 2015) decided to ban camping in Rishikesh, a major
tourist hotspot in Uttarakhand. It also clamped a blanket ban on the use of
plastic and regulated mines on Ganga in order to the pollution of the river.
The ban would be in effect from Feb 1, 2016.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
The decision
came on the lines pushed forward by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ clean Ganga
project – the NGT said “No camping activity shall be carried out in the entire
belt of Kaudiyala to Rishikesh and the government would abide by its statement
made before the tribunal on March 31st 2015, till the regulatory
regime in terms of this judgment comes into force and is effectively
implemented.” The rafting activity can be carried out according the decision.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
The panel
also constituted a committee of officials representing Uttarakhand and central government
to submit a report on regulatory regime within three weeks to the tribunal.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
It
also directed a blanket ban on the use of plastic from Gaumukh to Haridwar
along the river. Besides, the tribunal ordered the mining on the river bed
shall be carried out in a highly regulated manner under strict supervision. </div>
